She was accompanied by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, the chief guests for the parade, and was received by PM Narendra Modi
The PM was joined by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Air Chief Marshal A P S Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi
In a symbolic departure from tradition, enclosures along Kartavya Path for the 77th Republic Day parade have been named after India’s rivers such as the Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada and Krishna, replacing VVIP-style labels. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also conveyed Republic Day wishes, noting that this year marks 76 years since the adoption of the Constitution
